Fallaires (or torch bearers) descend from the faro to the Catalan town of Taull at the Fallas de Taull festival. The Fallas are an ancient tradition of celebrating the sun and harvest that has been passed down for generations and continues to be an important part of culture throughout the Pyrenees. The fire serves as a symbol of the sun, brought down from the mountains into the village in a gesture of purification.
